Looking for that unique and special summer camp experience for your children? Youngsters who are entering grades 6-8 this fall can participate in a fun-filled and up close opportunity to learn about oceanography this summer through the University of Rhode Island’s Oceanography Explorer Day Camps.

The camps are led by outreach scientists at URI’s Graduate School of Oceanography -- experienced science teachers and camp instructors -- who will introduce participants to the fascinating world of oceanography and take them into the field each day to learn firsthand about the fascinating and diverse coastal environment.

Designed with the interests of the age group in mind, action-packed activities will include thorough explorations of the barrier beaches, salt ponds, rocky shores, and salt marshes of Rhode Island. The camp experience will also include a cruise aboard URI’s 51-foot research vessel Cap’n Bert. Campers will investigate the mysterious and exciting life beneath Narragansett Bay and use scientific instruments and equipment to make fascinating discoveries about our local marine environment. The week long camp will conclude with a behind-the-scenes tour of Mystic Aquarium and Institute for Exploration.
