The year 1963 marks the beginning of discussions of an appropriate place for a youth camp. Various sites were considered, among them Redberry Lake, Martin’s Lake and Beaver Creek. Initially, Beaver Creek was selected and as the property belonged to the City of Saskatoon, we requested permission to build there. In the forthcoming delay the Provincial Government announced that a lake was going to be created at Blackstrap. We applied to the Government and in June, 1968, bought 40 acres of land on the east side of the lake.

The committee called upon many other persons to help lay out the property in design and construction. It is a point of interest and gratitude to recall that the Chapel was donated by the Second Street United Church - the minister in charge at this time was the Reverend Ross Stewart. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus furnished the Chapel. A total of 65 business firms and other organizations assisted in the building of the complex. Brother Jack Wood and his wife, Pauline, were among others who gave hundreds of hours of work to this project. The complex has a value of $100,000. Council 1517, as well as Councils 5104 and 4938 have given combined support and encouragement. The complex was opened in 1979 and now serves as quarters for seminars, summer camps as well as a variety of other purposes.
