Description

A Clearwater camper is a special person, one whose parents recognize the value of an extended experience away from home. Realizing this, Clearwater Camp is dedicated to providing that environment which will stimulate the most healthful and purposeful growth towards maturity. It is a place where a camper may learn to interact with her peers, to develop new skills, to venture into the unknown and to succeed in her pursuit of new goals. Considerable effort goes into structuring the program to insure the proper balance between scheduled activity instruction and the free use of time to enjoy the beauty of the Northwoods with new friends.

The wonders of a summer at Clearwater are many and varied, but perhaps the greatest of all is the joy of learning to know one's self...an experience that lasts a lifetime.

When campers arrive at Clearwater they live with their age group in units which are geographically separate from one another.

The Harbor is for our youngest campers who live on the mainland (near the main camp buildings such as the dining room, office area, and general meeting areas.) These campers have usually completed grades two through four. The majority of Harbor cabins are enclosed and have their own bathroom facilities and a fireplace.

The Cape and Point girls live out on the island, a delightful walk along wooded trails from which the lake is always visible. The Cape is the middle unit and is found just across the footbridge on the island. These girls have usually completed grades five and six.

The Point is for our oldest campers who have completed grades seven through ten.  Both the Cape and Point have central toilet and shower facilities. Seven of the island cabins are enclosed, while ten others have 3.5' canvas-covered screens on four sides. The cabin group is the first and most important membership for a girl at Clearwater. Girls live in a small group, generally five girls and one counselor so that a camper can feel that she has her own place at camp - a place where she can make significant contributions and where she can feel important and worthwhile. A girl who is secure in her cabin group can more easily and more successfully succeed in other, possibly unexplored areas of the camp experience.

Clearwater has a registered nurse as a full-time member of the staff. The nurse determines when it would be in the best interests of the camper to be in the infirmary or to be seen by one of the physicians in Minocqua, just ten minutes away. Daily the nurse informs the Director of campers in the infirmary and of other-than-routine first aid situations. The nurse's goal and ours is to prevent illness and accidents while building among all campers a sense of responsibility for one's own health.

Now you know where the campers make their "home away from home", but there is still more to the Clearwater experience! Come explore a day at Clearwater and see the many activities and programs available for our campers.
