Another Exciting Year of Summer Programs!

Founded in 1959, we uphold and pursue the mission and motto of The Stony Brook School, and therefore exist to provide an environment that fosters the development of character and personal growth in young people and adults alike. Our Sports, Marine, and Specialty camp programs are "counselor centered." Daily activities incorporate five areas of personal growth: physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual. Our staff provides enthusiastic, nurturing, and challenging supervision of all campers. These goals are particularly emphasized in Sound Learning, our two-week, residential academic/activities program. SBS would like to highlight the third year of our residential International Piano Festival program with guest artists faculty.

The Stony Brook School is excited to introduce the newest addition to our Sports Camps lineup - CROSStraining. Designed to build conditioning and fitness in preparation for the upcoming season, CROSStraining will also develop sport-specific leadership skills and personal growth. The program will be led by varsity coaches at The Stony Brook School with a partnership with local speed schools and fitness experts. You can expect to impress your coach with improved agility, explosiveness, strength, and endurance after going through CROSStraining's rigorous program. More importantly, you will impress your coach with your strength of character. Athletes should bring cleats and sneakers to camp each day.

The tennis camp at The Stony Brook School provides instruction in all areas of tennis for players ranging from beginner to advanced. All staff members are trained to lead campers through drills that will improve a player's overall game and increase confidence. Our mission is to have a positive influence on each of our students. Athletes will have an opportunity to strengthen each of the five strokes in tennis: forehand groundstroke, backhand groundstroke, forehand volley, backhand volley, and their serve. We will be providing two groups: competitive and recreational. Children should come prepared to play tennis, with their own racket, on the first day of each session.

The golf camp introduces the game of golf to beginning players and allows more experienced players to improve their skills. Golf campers travel to a course at least four days a week where they receive instruction from golf professionals as well as our experienced instructors utilizing the driving range, putting green, and other facilities. After the instructional period campers will have an opportunity to play actual holes on the course. Golfers should come prepared with their own bags (5 clubs minimum), sneakers or soft spikes, 6 golf balls and tees, golf glove (optional), hat, rain gear, sunblock, lunch and water bottle.

The Soccer Camp at Stony Brook School is a fantastic experience for all players, whether you have been playing with teams for years or are just learning the game. Stony Brook is proud to be home to the 2009 New York State High School Athletic Association Champions in soccer! Your child will be coached by players and coaches from that State Championship team, as well as coaches with over 25 years coaching experience! Players will learn passing, dribbling, and shooting techniques. They will be introduced to strategies on breaking down defenders and containing offensive players. They will be taught according to the "Four Pillars of the Game" (Technical, Tactical, Psychological, and Physical). Afternoon games will give players a chance to use new skills as they are put into action with teammates. The camp concludes with an all-camp tournament to crown a camp champion, which families are invited to attend. The two-week session will give players a chance to build deeper relationships and coaches a chance to make a more lasting impact on the players. Athletes must bring their own shin guards and cleats.

We offer this guarantee at the Stony Brook School Basketball Camp: you will get better, and you will have fun. You will find that to be our focus for every player, regardless of skill level. From brand new players to high school players, our camp will challenge you to raise your game. Our coaches have over 50 years of combined experience coaching summer basketball camps, and know how to make sure players have a great time. Players will work on every aspect of their game, including ball handling, defense, passing, shooting, rebounding, decision-making, spacing, situational strategy, and athleticism. Team-building is reinforced during fun morning activities and daily games each afternoon. The Robert S. Swanson Gymnasium has a world-class hardwood floor, so black-soled shoes are not permitted.

Mini-Sports, which is a part of the Stony Brook School Sports Camps will give campers the opportunity to try a variety of sports - track and field, tee ball, basketball, flag football, soccer, tennis, and more - with an emphasis on fun! Sessions will be taught by varsity-level coaches from the Stony Brook School's high school programs. Our goal is to provide a foundation in a variety of sports for campers to build upon as they mature. Beyond sport-specific activities, campers will also participate in agility drills that will help lay the groundwork for lifelong fitness. We will also be hosting guest speakers from local organizations, like our own Long Island Ducks. A morning and afternoon snack will be provided. Swim lessons and free swim will not be offered in the pool this summer.
