Friends of Arizona Highways is a non-profit corporation founded in the 1970's as an auxiliary to Arizona Highways magazine. Our mission has been to promote an appreciation for the cultural, historic and scenic wonders of Arizona, as well as to educate participants in photographic technique through the Arizona Highways Photo Workshops. Our mission has expanded in the last few years and our organization now offers workshops in the majority of Western states. Professional expertise and personal attention have long been hallmarks of our workshops and our main goals are to provide excellent customer service, breathtaking locations, outstanding accomodations and some of the world's best photographers as instructors.
Staffed by two full-time employees and a rotating corps of approximately 30 volunteers, in the past four years Friends has almost tripled the amount of workshops conducted yearly, from 25 per year to approximately 60 per year, which includes weekend workshops. Since formal incorporation in 1985, we have given grants to various causes within Arizona Highways magazine, discounts to high-school and college students, and have donated workshops via silent auctions and raffles to organizations such as The Lake Powell Museum, North American Nature Photographer's Association and Phoenix Children's Hospital.
