Description
Canoe Association-certified instructors and leaders will provide a confidence-building week of fun and adventure, centered on kayaking but also including swimming, hiking and observation and identification of the abundant wildlife in our region. The camp is based at our beautiful Bristol Harbor location and includes field trips to local nature centers, museums and beaches. Campers will use both sit-on-top and sea kayaks, and will learn first-hand the advantages and drawbacks of both types of kayak. Our curriculum emphasizes water safety: Students will learn proper paddling clothing and equipment, maritime etiquette and rules of the road, and how to exit and re-enter kayaks on the water. Students will also learn and practice basic navigation, including the use of charts, maps and compasses. Friday, parents are invited to join their campers for a leisurely paddle out to Hog island for a picnic and swim. Monday through Friday, 9:30-4.
Ocean State Adventures specializes in kayaking and coastal exploration for the entire family. In our instructional programs, our certified instructors will share the most current paddling techniques from basic maneuvers to advanced skills. From May through November, take in the views of Rhode Island's spectacular coastline from a stable and seaworthy OSA kayak on a guided tour, or explore one of the many estuaries that drain onto coastal waters. In winter and early spring, our indoor pool kayak sessions help you stay in touch with your paddling skills and give you a head start for the next season. Learn to enjoy our natural world in a way that promotes personal health and growth, as well as concern for our fragile environment. To organizations we offer custom-designed team-building programs year-round that will build team members’ confidence and awareness of their own and their teammates’ strengths and leadership qualities. In our week-long summer camp sessions, children from 9 through 16 get a thorough grounding in water safety and responsibility while gaining skills and knowledge in kayaking, swimming and ecology.
