Lyric Opera San Diego (LOSD) has been bringing accessible, affordable opera and musical theater productions to San Diego since 1979. The company proudly performs operas and musicals from the European and American tradition, in English, presenting the finest young musical talent available with full orchestra and chorus accompaniment. All regular shows are staged with chorus and orchestra.



A vital part of LOSD’s mission is commitment to education. The central piece of our educational activity is our Summer Academy for the Performing Arts which operates during the month of July and offers intensive training to talented middle and high school students. During the regular season, our Outreach Department presents preview performances to

students and social service organizations throughout San Diego County. Insight lectures about the productions are

offered prior to all regularly scheduled performances.



LOSD is recognized throughout the operatic world as a company dedicated to developing professional artists. Many

young world-class artists have performed their first professional roles on our stage. Company alumni have gone on to

major roles with such prestigious companies as Covent Garden Opera, New York City Opera, Deutsche Staatsoper, Houston Grand Opera, San Diego Opera, Opera Company of Philadelphia and Seattle Opera. They also are appearing

in leading roles on Broadway and on national and European tours. LOSD’s productions are reviewed locally,

nationally (Sunset Magazine) and internationally (Opera Japonica, Opera Actual, Pro Opera).



All LOSD performances take place at the newly restored, historic Birch North Park Theatre at 2891 University Avenue

at the corner of University Avenue and 29th Street in North Park.
