Description

Founded in 1826, Mississippi College is the oldest institution of higher learning in the state of Mississippi. Mississippi College is the second oldest Baptist college in the United States and has been recognized by the Templeton Foundation as one of the country's top 100 character-building colleges. This is evident in the quality of education provided by the Department of Music. Here, students are provided the opportunity to gain the knowledge, understanding, skills and appreciation of music necessary to function at professional levels in their chosen areas. Individual degree programs are specifically designed to provide a foundation for development in those areas and to prepare students for meaningful careers in service to God and others. Faculty reflect Christian values, commitment to service, and personal concern for students in both classroom and studio, modeling for them the integration of faith and learning in scholarship and performance. The department offers cultural enrichment opportunities to the college community and the public in the form of applied lessons, concerts, recitals, and workshops. The music department is home to 80 undergraduate majors and 11 full-time faculty, 10 of whom have earned doctorates in their fields of study. We are proud of our high academic and performance standards, the successes of our graduates, and the long-standing excellence of our faculty.
