Description

The overall purpose of any Salvation Army camp is to serve the total personality and health needs of the camper; spiritual, educational, social, and recreational through a creative, healthful experience, in co-operative group living in outdoor settings.
Salvation Army Camping Objectives May Be Stated in the Following Terms:

  1. To provide an opportunity for the unique experience possible in camp. Camping provides a valuable opportunity to live as an individual in a group setting. Surrounded by the wonders of nature, the worth of the individual and the companionship and dependence upon the group take on new meaning.

  2. To stress the importance of religious values. This does not imply a formal religious pattern but rather an emphasis on the presence of God as day-to-day living experience. (To know the love of God through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.)

  3. To provide an opportunity for creative expression in an outdoor setting.

  4. To provide fellowship and fun and to meet the natural hunger for adventure.

  5. To develop social responsibility.

  6. To provide the opportunity for learning new skills and for sharpening old ones. Camping is always a learning experience. In greater measure it may, by design, become the opportunity for increased competence in swimming, camp craft, music, leadership and many other skills.
