The College of William & Mary, founded in 1693, is the second oldest university in the United States. It is a state supported highly selective public university and is known as one of the elite "Public Ivy's". The college's historic campus includes the Sir Christopher Wren Building (1695), the oldest college building in the nation, where classes are still conducted. This and other 18th-century structures of William & Mary were restored to their original appearance through grants from philanthropist John D. Rockefeller during the restoration of Colonial Williamsburg in the late 1920's.
