The Birmingham Southern Men's Basketball program has received five commitments this spring according to Head Coach Mitch Cole. Fresh off a 20-5 season, Coach Cole and his staff have added quality players at each position.

Jason Holland (6'0 Guard, Baker High School, Mobile, AL)

Led his team to a 29-6 record, a 6-A State Final 4 appearance in Birmingham, and was named Mobile County 6-A Player of the Year. "Jason is a winner. He is exceptionally quick and is a leader on and off the floor. His speed, skill and unselfish play will serve our program well for the next four years."



Colin Henry (6'4 Wing, Fort Meyers High School, FL)

Led his team to a 28-5 record and the 4-A State Championship in Florida. He grew up in Central Asia attending Russian Schools and finished high school in Fort Meyers, Florida. "Colin is highly skilled and athletic. He can play multiple positions and was a key factor in his team's winning the State Championship this season."



Nick Murphy (6'4 Wing, Lakeside HS in Decatur, GA)

Led his team to an 18-8 record shooting over 40% from the 3 pt line and 87% from the FT line. "Nick plays with heart and determination every time he steps on the floor. He is a fantastic long range shooter and possesses the ability to score in a variety of ways. His accuracy from the 3 point line will fit well within our style of play."



Griffin Schamp (6'4 Forward, Wesleyan Christian School, Alpharetta, GA)

Voted first team All-State in Georgia, he led his team to a 25-6 record and the 1-A State Championship in Georga. "Griffin is a multi-skilled player who can play several positions on the floor. He is a "basketball junkie" who will do whatever it takes to win. His play in the Georgia state tournament was outstanding."



Ricky Shemanski (6'8 Center, Jupiter HS, Jupiter, FL)

Averaged 17 points and 14 rebounds on a 19-4 team. "Ricky is an aggressive big man who has the size and strength to make an impact in our program. He likes contact and doesn't mind mixing it up in the paint. I love his work ethic and willingness to becoming a force in the middle."



Coach Cole is excited about this year's incoming freshmen.  "What I like about this class is that each of these young men come from winning high school programs. They understand the idea of 'TEAM' and will bring that attitude to an already strong base of returning players. In addition to their accomplishments on the court, this class is outstanding in the classroom as well. They are ready to take on the challenges of becoming high achieving student-athletes at Birmingham Southern."
