Description

Camp Strawderman is an all-girls camp with a long and rich tradition of good old fashioned summer fun for girls ages 6-17. The unusual beauty of the natural surroundings and the location, easily accessible, yet still off the beaten path, make for an ideal site. There are fifteen sleeping cabins with adjoining counselor's rooms, a main dining hall, a large recreation hall, a craft shop, a trading post, a counselors' lodge, and a director's cabin, all built in rustic style. Water for drinking and showers is supplied by pure mountain springs and driven wells on the mountain side. Stony Creek, flowing through the camp, provides facilities for swimming. The camp has its own stables with over forty horses. The mountain trails encourage hiking and horseback riding and offer alluring opportunities for the study of trees, flowers, birds and animal life.Camp Strawderman is located in the George Washington National Forest twelve miles west of Woodstock, Virginia. It is only one mile from a main road and is easily reached by automobile. Transportation to and from Dulles Airport is available.Camp Spirit is encouraged and maintained by counselors who are at least 18 years of age and high school graduates. They are chosen for their strong character, refinement, ability and leadership. Former campers who have completed our two-year counselor-in-training program bring to their work a thorough appreciation of Strawderman spirit and ideals. Many of our counselors are mature college graduates with masters degrees and years of counseling experience. Staff turnover is consistently low, thus ensuring the stability of our program and the continuation of Strawderman traditions. There is one counselor for every four campers.
