Description
Our mission is to operate and maintain a recreational camp to enjoy fellowship, the outdoors and the appreciation of nature being formed primarily for children, adults and youth/families originating in North Central Oklahoma.
Camp McFadden started in 1929 as a resident camp for Camp Fire Girls. The land was donated by William McFadden. The first facility was located on the banks of the Arkansas River near Ponca City. When Kaw Lake was created, Camp McFadden had to move to where it is today on the shoreline of Kaw Lake. Since then the camp has grown twice its size and has added a Ropes Course, Cabins, and a Nature Center. In 1997 Camp Fire disbanded from Camp McFadden and Camp McFadden was incorporated with Camp Fire deeding the land to Camp McFadden. Camp went through some rough patches since then but in 2004, Camp held their first retreat, where board members, volunteers, and former Camp Fire girls came together to decide the future of the camp. Now, because of groups like the Weaver Foundation, Chesapeake Energy, and ConocoPhillips, the camp has been able to turn a new leaf and get camp going for kids again. In the summer of 2009 Camp McFadden will offer their first resident summer camp to the surrounding areas, with hopes that camp will become a source of joy and inspiration for children and adults alike in the times ahead.
