DescriptionGirl Scouts of the USA is the world's preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls-all girls- where, in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world. In partnership with committed adults, girls develop qualities that will serve them all their lives, like leadership, strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth. Juliette Gordon Low founded Girl Scouts of the USA on March 12, 1912. She organized the first troop in Savannah, Georgia, registering 18 girls with the purpose of helping them develop a sense of responsibility, ideals and teamwork so that they could learn to support one another. Ninety years later, Girl Scouts of the USA is the world's largest voluntary organization for girls. Today there are nearly 3.8 million Girl Scouts-2.8 million girl members and 963,000 adult members, representing diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. Through membership in the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, GSUSA is part of a worldwide family of 8.5 million girls and adults in 144 countries. In Girl Scouts, girls work together in partnerships with committed adult members, which consist of women and men that volunteer in a variety of capacities such as troop leaders, committee members and board members. Girl Scouts Pelican Council, Inc. is chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA and is one of over 300 councils in the United States. Girl Scouts Pelican Council, Inc. serves over 3000 girl members with over 1400 adult member volunteers sharing the responsibility of influencing the lives of our girls. The council serves 9 parishes, which include: Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Claiborne, Desoto, Lincoln, Red River, Sabine and Webster. The council is governed by a volunteer policy-making Board of Directors, led by President Karl Cole. Operations are managed by a paid Chief Executive Officer, Sandy Sims, with a staff of 10 full-time and part-time women and men. Details
