The mission of the West Virginia Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (WVCDHH) is to advocate for, develop, and coordinate public policies, regulations, and programs to assure full and equal opportunity for persons who are deaf and hard of hearing in West Virginia.

Do you remember summer camp - crafts, fun, making new friends?  You didn't have any trouble talking with your bunkmates or with friends in the pool.  You may have been a little nervous the first day, but by the first night, you had fit right in and began having a wonderful time.  There is a group of children in our state that deserve the same opportunity to enjoy and experience summer camp, but most summer camps aren't a place of fun and laughter for them.  They can't communicate with the other campers freely.  They are as isolated at camp as they are in everyday life.  There is a camp especially for this very special group of children - Deaf Youth Camp of WV, Inc.

    Deaf Youth Camp of WV, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization that evolved out of a camp that began in 1988 in order to provide deaf children in our state with a week-long experience that they would never forget.  We offer a barrier-free, total communication camp.  This means that any deaf child, regardless of communication method, can communicate freely with other campers.  Our staff ranges from deaf individuals from around the state to professionals in various fields of deafness to hearing people who have the ability to communicate with the campers in their language mode.
