Description

Toddler's Workshop is a Webster-grown business with a family friendly appeal, locally owned and operated.  Virginia Nacy, raised and educated in Rochester, developed Toddler's Workshop Child Care Center in July 1987.  It originally operated out of the Schlegel Road School Building.  Since its inception, the program has grown from a licensed capacity of 45 children to 316 in two adjacent buildings.

Virginia Nacy is a certified elementary teacher with ten years of public school experience.  In addition she holds a Master's Degree in Reading education.  Her experiences, plus research of best practices from NAEYC, (National Association for the Education of Young Children) and use of New York State standards  for preschool and kindergarten have all been instrumental in the development of the Toddler's Workshop Curriculum.

Virginia, best known as Ginny by the staff and families of Toddler's Workshop, has been committed to providing a quality program for over 20 years!  One of those measures has been national accreditation since 1993.  She has also held a number of offices in local child care organizations and continues to be involved in the larger child care community to ensure that most current trends and research are integrated into the Toddler's Workshop curriculum.

Ginny believes that

  • children learn best through play

  • the most important thing any adult can do for a child is provide them with lots of books and help create a love of reading.  This will ultimately translate into a love for learning.  Reading is the cornerstone for all education.

  • physically and emotionally fit, healthy and happy children are children who have been afforded the opportunity to run, climb and play outdoors throughout all four seasons.  This is accomplished at Toddler's Workshop and Railroad Junction School Age Program with state of the art playgrounds for each age level, acres of field space, a built in swimming pool for use during the summer months and lots of opportunities for more formal group games and sports.

  • children should be given multiple opportunities to work, play and develop relationships with other children and adults outside of their immediate family in order to develop into a self confident, independent individual.

Ginny's late husband, son and daughter have all worked at the program over the years.  In addition, her five brothers and sisters have also had roles in the program from construction work to providing staff inservices.

The Webster Community has been home to Toddler's Workshop and Toddler's Workshop has been a home away from home to many families in the community which includes some former children of the program returning to become staff members!
