Description

A group of individuals held a meeting on September 24, l925, for the purpose of forming a charitable and benevolent corporation under the Laws of the State of Oklahoma and named the corporation, THE OKLAHOMA SOCIETY FOR CRIPPLED CHILDREN, INC.   One of the prominent speakers at that meeting was Earle F. Bridges, Chairman of the Crippled Children’s Committee of the Oklahoma City Rotary Club.  Directors were elected and By-Laws adopted.  Mr. Bridges became the first President of the organization.  Since that time, Easter Seals has been supported by Rotary Clubs and other civic organizations as well as individual volunteers throughout the state of Oklahoma.

In 1984, the Oklahoma Easter Seal Agency was officially incorporated and a few years later, the name was officially changed to the Oklahoma Easter Seal Society and was also known by the registered symbol, the Easter Lily.  A traditional symbol of spring and new life, the lily was officially incorporated as the national organization’s logo in l952 and later became the logo of the Oklahoma Easter Seal Society as an affiliate of the National Easter Seal Society.

In 2002, the Oklahoma Society for Crippled Children merged with the Oklahoma Easter Seal Society, and the surviving corporation became known as EASTER SEALS OKLAHOMA, INC.

Since l925, Easter Seals in Oklahoma has carried out many programs benefiting thousands of disabled children and adults as well as providing early intervention vision, hearing, scoliosis and speech screening services for school children, identifying problems before their educational progress becomes adversely affected.  Programs have also included speech and physical therapy and evaluations; purchase of medical evaluations and equipment;  eye glasses and hearing aids; ear and eye surgeries; and various other medical treatment and supplies for children from economically eligible families.
