Description

Founded in 1746 and acclaimed as the oldest girls' boarding school in the nation, Linden Hall is an extraordinary meeting of the timeless and the innovative, of security and growth, of nurture and challenge within a safe community where young women learn to ask questions, take risks, and develop positive self-awareness.  By the careful blending of tradition, innovation, family-oriented campus life, an inspiring academic program and distinctive co-curricular and extracurricular opportunities, Linden Hall prepares young women to be leaders.  In continuous operation for over 260 years, Linden Hall ranks among the best girls' schools in the United States.

Linden Hall School is a small girls’ independent, college-preparatory, resident and day school in Lititz, Pennsylvania. The school, founded in 1746 by members of the Moravian Church, is extremely proud of its extensive and honorable history and carries the distinction of being the oldest and now one of the finest girls’ boarding schools in the United States.

The Moravian ideals of education have been at the heart of Linden Hall since its founding.  Linden Hall, now a nonsectarian school, originally subscribed to the progressive Moravian philosophy that encompassed three fundamental principles: first, that all females be thoroughly educated to become whole, responsible citizens; second, that a student must develop a love of knowledge in order to reach her full potential; and third, that advanced pupils can be role models for younger students.  These principles have provided the tenets of the educational continuity that has allowed Linden Hall to stand on a firm foundation supporting the freedom to evolve into an institution compatible with contemporary times.
