DescriptionWe offer fun, creatively crafted weeklong Summer Camps at our Whispering Pines Conference & Retreat Center, situated on 46 wilderness acres in Mi Wuk Village, about 12 miles east of Sonora in the Sierra Mountains. Every week is carefully designed to meet the special needs of persons with disabilities in a safe, exciting environment. Camp Activities Dedicated to providing a fun, positive camping experience for our guests, we help them discover and enjoy new things within the scope of their abilities and interests. We provide opportunities that promote physical wellness and social interaction for our guests, while building new friendships with our caring Staff at the same time. We also enhance the quality of life for our guests by enabling them to experience outdoor activities, and by providing a safe haven for them to explore the wonders of nature. Special Events Every Camp session includes adaptive fun activities focusing on the individual's unique abilities and skill sets. Taking nature hikes along forest trails, enjoying picnics, roasting marshmallows, and singing around the campfire are longstanding favorites! Other special events may include: fun puppet shows, interactive role playing with costumes, acting out Bible stories, singing, guest artists, camp visits by forest rangers, Smokey the Bear and local fire trucks, and fun photo opps sitting on cool choppers belonging to the Sonora-based Christian Motorcycle Club. Travel Camps We host off-site day trips for select groups of six men and six women during separate weeks. These high functioning guests sleep outside in large tents or teepees with their Camp counselors. They wake up and start their day with a hearty breakfast, followed by a ride in our van to that day's outing. They come back to The Pines, rejoin the other guests, eat dinner, and enjoy the evening activities together. Details
