Description


At Randolph-Macon Academy, a day and boarding school in Virginia, students in grades 6-12 discover their potential and develop better academic and organizational skills. Students receive personal attention in the classroom and in the dorm.  They learn positive Christian morals


and develop self-discipline through a structured program, administered by teachers and dorm counselors who care deeply about "their" kids.

Summer Upper School Courses

Students may take one new course or two repeat courses during the four-week summer program.  Upon successful completion, high school credit is awarded, which is transferable to any Virginia high school and most high schools across the United States. The following courses are planned for Summer 2009:

Randolph-Macon Academy reserves the right to cancel classes if sufficient numbers for the class are not met.

A wide variety of enrichment courses await you at R-MA's Middle School Summer Academic Camp.  Explore a new language, try your hand at a variety of mediums in art, learn about new cultures, step back in time...it's a summer you'll never forget!

 

NEW! Summer Language Sampler
Enrich your language skills with this new Summer Language Sampler! Learn the rudiments of conversational Spanish and also experience three other very different alphabets—the Cyrillic (Russian), Hiragana (Japanese) and the American Manual Alphabet (used for American Sign Language).  Learn more

 

NEW! Principles of Art
A highly individualized course, where students are introduced to a variety of professional art supplies, including air brush, oil/canvas, technical pen, and many more.

 

Reading Comprehension

Intensive practice in reading for information, highlighting the ability to process what is read.

Concrete Mathematics

Word problems and basic operations with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. For students who need extra practice with the fundamentals of mathematics.
 

Abstract Mathematics

A pre-algebraic course intended for students who have a solid foundation in computational mathematics. An excellent course to take to prepare for pre-algebra or Algebra I.
 

Technology

Word processing, publishing, keyboarding skills, web design, spreadsheets, and internet research.
 

Study Skills

Includes note taking, studying for tests and quizzes, time management, organization, and research skills.

 

World Events

Explores current and world events and how they impact our lives.
