DescriptionOur Early Childhood services, Youth Programs, Community Programs, Project Home, Mental Health Services, Family Literacy, Older Adults, Arts, Beacon Campus, and Credit Union work together to provide each person and every family with the practical and personal tools they need to reach their potential and attain true self-sufficiency. Elementary school children have a choice of four different after-school programs throughout the neighborhood, three housed at local public schools, the other at the Settlement's own home on Eldridge Street. In addition, University Settlement recently expanded our reach by establishing programs at four new sites in Brooklyn. Close to 1,000 children take part in these programs -- free of charge -- five afternoons a week, even during school holidays and vacations. All of our after-school programs emphasize literacy and education, providing homework help, tutoring, and the opportunity to use reading and writing as tools for exploration. In addition, we offer a range of enriching experiences, including music, dance, drama, visual arts, sports, recreation, community service, and many special events -- as well as a nutritious dinner -- each and every day.
