The University of Hawai`i women’s tennis team’s season came to a close with a 4-0 loss to Boise State in the semifinals of the 2010 Western Athletic Conference Tournament Saturday afternoon at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.

A day after battling past Idaho to reach the semifinals, the No. 4 seed Rainbow Wahine couldn’t muster enough against the No. 43 ranked and top-seeded Broncos. Boise State (21-5) advanced to Sunday’s championship match versus host and third-seed Fresno State. The Rainbow Wahine, who finished the season strong with five wins in their last six matches, ended the year with a 12-14 overall record.

Boise State earned the shutout over the Rainbow Wahine by winning the doubles point, then taking the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 courts in singles. All three wins were in straight sets, including the clinching win at the No. 1 court by WAC Women’s Player of the Year, Pichittra Thongdach who defeated Sophie Kobuch, 7-5, 6-2. It was the last career match for Kobuch, UH’s lone senior and a three-time all-WAC player.

UH was competitive in the other three singles matches before the match was called. Barbara Pinterova and Aglae Van den Bergh were both up a set on their courts, while Natasha Zorec was leading in the third and deciding set on court No. 5.
