Description

The Grand River Academy campus consists of two hundred acres in northern Ohio's Western Reserve. The physical plant consists of five academic buildings, five dormitories, and ten faculty homes directly across from the campus. Students live in North and West Hall. Both dormitories house 24 students in double-occupancy rooms and were constructed in 1969 and then renovated in 2002. Shepard Hall, on the opposite side of campus, was built in 1918 and renovated in 1983. It has room for 40 students. Mastin Hall, completed in 1982, is a dormitory for 20 students. Warren Hall was built in 1997 and is home to 12 students. Each dormitory has one or more residences for faculty families. The Academy gymnasium is the center of campus. Its facilities include a 7000-square foot gym and locker rooms on the main floor, a wrestling center and health and fitness center upstairs. Faculty residences are just beyond the outside avenues and are within easy reach for students finding it necessary to talk with instructors during evenings or weekends.

Assembly begins at 8:00 and you should be there before that in order to greet you kids and ensure that they are ready for the school day. Lunch is provided and will be with the same kids throughout the year. These kids are your advisors and they will look to you for help and support during the school year. We have mandatory activities in the afternoon and you will need to do two per week. These activities can be initiated by the kids or teachers. If there is something you like to do and you can get some kids on board, you can do that for your afternoon activity. On Fridays we let the kids relax and take it easy. Every other Friday you will be supervising a dorm or mall trip.

The weekends start with study sessions and then we have different trips for the kids to attend if they wish to do so. At the beginning of the year, teachers sign up for six weekends to work. There are three time periods to work on the weekends. You sign up for individual afternoons and nights to work. These activities can also be insipid by faculty or kids. They include sporting events, movies, mall trips, museums, plays, music events, and other things of interest to the kids. When you chaperone these trips the school takes care of your expenses.
