DescriptionJames R. Lowenstine grew up boating, hiking, fishing, and hunting at Lowenwood, his family’s Northwoods estate. As a child, he developed a deep attachment to the lakes, forests, and wildlife on this land. As an adult, Jim continued to return to Lowenwood every few months and usually stayed here for several weeks each summer. Spending a few hours on our campus makes it easy to understand why Jim cherished his time at Lowenwood. Out of respect for Jim’s deep affection for the land that is now Conserve School, we continue to use the name “Lowenwood” to refer to our 1200 acres. Over the past years Conserve School developed a diverse set of activities to both support its four year college preparatory program and to provide opportunities for our Northwoods neighbors and it has been our pleasure to do so. As we refocus our school into a Semester School the Camp Lowenwood program will not be continuing. Camp Lowenwood has provided children ages 6 – 17 with wonderful opportunities. And it has been our pleasure to serve the families here in the Northwoods and beyond with these programs. I would like to heartily thank all those who have supported our summer camp both the day camp and overnight resident camp program. With making the Conserve School Semester our primary focus I will be concentrating my time and energy on Student Life and the Outdoor Education Program. In addition to my Administrator duties at Conserve School I will be sharing the role of trainer and supervisor of our Graduate Fellow Field Instructors and working alongside them to provide our students with a living and learning environment that truly inspires environmental stewardship.
