Description

The story of the Y.O. Ranch is the story of Texas. Founded by French immigrant Captain Charles Schreiner in 1852, the 40,000-acre ranch has remained in his family for five generations. A Texas Ranger, a bona fide cowboy and an independent businessman, Captain Schreiner took full control of the ranch in 1880. He financed the purchase by driving cattle along the Western Trail to Dodge City. The fearlessness of the frontiersmen like Captain Schreiner survives on the Y.O. Ranch to this day, each generation works to leave the land better than the one before it.

Home to the largest herd of registered Texas Longhorns in the world, the Y.O. Ranch has made a name for itself around the globe. Still a working cattle ranch after all these years, the Y.O. has two cattle drives every year honoring its roots. The 10,000 animals residing on the ranch are comprised of over 55 different species, some of which can only be found in North America on the Y.O. The ranch’s responsible hunting, tours, photography safaris, campgrounds, Y.O. Adventure Camp for Kids and corporate retreats lure people from all over to come to Texas and experience the magic first hand.

There is vitality in its majestic landscape that invigorates all who set foot on the Y.O. Ranch. Over the past 129 years, the face of Texas has been modernized and reinvented. The Y.O. Ranch has managed to evolve with the changing times, yet still preserve a piece of our pristine past. In the years to come, the Y.O. will continue to honor it’s commitment to conservation of the land and preservation of exotic species. It will thrive on its foundation of unbridled optimism and can-do confidence.

We invite you to join us in celebrating our heritage from the past 129 years, and help us as we craft our path into the future. Come out to see the Y.O. and you can have the opportunity to live the legend yourself.
