Brookside Outdoor Center is a Christian summer camp situated fifteen minutes south of Magog on 35 acres of woodlands and meadows in the picturesque village of Fitch Bay. Founded in 2005 by Brian and Heather Wharry, Brookside offers one-week camps for a maximum of 15 campers per session, focusing on leadership and team-building, adventure programming and outdoor living skills. Brian, former assistant director of Quebec Lodge Camp, and Heather, former camp nurse, bring with them over thirty years of combined camping experience.
At Brookside, staff members are selected for their experience and ability to nurture campers as well as for their leadership skills. Our staff are certified
in CPR and First Aid, and take part in an extensive pre-camp orientation. To allow campers to learn new skills safely, we maintain a camper to staff ratio of
3 to 1.
Over the last four years, we have seen the power of Christian camping in the life of a child. Brookside, because of its small size and commitment to a high staff to camper ratio, is reaching out to kids who don’t always fit the traditional camp mold. At Brookside, we are in a unique position to be more flexible and able to change our program to meet individual needs while still fostering a spirited and tightly knit group. Our staff have many years of camping experience and most are enrolled in education or nursing programs at university. Over the last three summers, our campers have returned home not only with new outdoor skills, but also with enhanced self- confidence, social-interaction skills and a successful camp experience.
For a lot of kids, that’s huge. For us, that’s even huger because that means that all of us at Brookside can embody the love of Christ to children who in today’s society face challenge after challenge, failure after failure, and rejection after rejection, and show them that there is One who
loves always and never forsakes.
