Thank you for your interest in joining our staff team for the 2010 season. This guide will hopefully answer many of your questions as you complete the application process.
There are some changes to the staff structure and the pay scale this year, so whether you’re new to Camp Potlatch or returning alumni, please take the time to read carefully.
At Camp Potlatch, we strive to create a fun-filled experience that children will want to return to year after year. The camp’s natural environment, paired with our commitment to providing a safe opportunity to grow, ensures that children will return from camp with increased self-confidence, self-esteem, and an understanding of the importance of community. Camp fees are on a sliding scale based on a family's ability to pay. No camper is turned away because of their inability to pay.
Each summer, over 1,000 kids take advantage of an opportunity to attend one of Canada's best wilderness camp sites: Camp Potlatch. Located in Howe Sound, British Columbia, Camp Potlatch is a picturesque camp characterized by 133 acres of densely vegetated rainforest and over 1.5 km of beautiful oceanfront. Even thou the camp is located less than an hour from Vancouver, the camp is truly isolated in pristine wilderness. Only accessible by boat, and is not connected to the electrical grid. Electrical is created as needed by an onsite generator. Water is collected from the glacier feed stream that flows through camp (and treated for consumption). Not to worry we still have all the modern amenities to ensure camp runs smoothly, phone lines, satellite internet, flush toilets and heated showers. The camp program is divided in two Main camp and Leadership camp.
Main camp consists of 10 (5 male and 5 female) cabins. Each cabin rotates through a variety of core activities during the course of the week. The activities are skill based and build towards the overnight out trips at the end of the week. Outtrips are either land or seas based, were campers explore the Potlatch Valley and the shores of Howe Sound.
Leadership camp is a 2-year program, Adventure Camp (Nootka) and Wilderness Leadership Camp (Haida), designed to develop strong individuals with characteristics desirable to being a camp leader. Leadership campers live “off-site” a short hike from Main Camp. They sleep in rustic shelters, and assist in preparing and cooking all their own meals. They only return to main camp for supplies, equipment and a much deserved shower!
