Kids in College (KIC) is a non-credit program offered through Miami University’s Lifelong Learning office for area youth grades K-8. The classes are designed to support Ohio Department of Education standards and are academically-based and inquiry-oriented. Youth who participate in the KIC program are actively involved in experiential learning that develops skills and knowledge while making friends and having fun! Classes are enrollment contingent with no more than a 15:1 student-faculty ratio and may be paid for through Miami University payroll deduction.

Sign your kids up for a morning and afternoon session, and we will provide a supervised lunch period!

Students should bring their own lunch and beverage.

In this exciting, hands-on program you will discover how amazing science is. You will make and take home a wide assortment of toys designed to teach you science concepts in a hands-on way. Grow your own crystal tree. Make an energy bead bracelet and watch as those amazing beads turn from white to a rainbow of colors before your eyes.

Build a working electric motor. Make your own sharpie shirt and learn some cool chemistry. Make silly putty, glowing goo, green flubber and other cool projects.

AND by the way... we will make ice cream in our own amazing, different, sciensational way!

Students should bring a 100% cotton T-shirt.

Build a Robot Dinosaur, Mars Cruiser, Aquabot, Space Copter, Desert Rover, or “The Five Foot Tall Commander Robot.” Build as many as you can in the time that we have.

You can also build your own robots with our motors, wires, controllers, and wheels. Use your imagination! It’s a challenge, but you can do it if you think!

Get ready for Sumo Battles, the Battle Box, and Sciensational Workshops’ Build-a-Thon!

Interested in stars, planets, and lasers?

Learn about lasers and watch the dancing, swirling, pulsating laser lights in our Laser Light Show.

We will conduct experiments with our LASER POINTER plus lenses and mirrors as we have fun and learn. You will make and take home a 30-times magnification plastic mini microscope, your own kaleidoscope, spectroscope, periscope and constellation watcher.

Watch the constellations in class and learn about all the planets as you take our 3-D Adventure into outer space! This workshop will be a de-light-ful hands-on experience.
