DescriptionThe Audubon Naturalist Society inspires residents of the greater Washington, DC, region to appreciate, understand, and protect their natural environment through outdoor experiences, education, and advocacy. The Audubon Naturalist Society seeks to create a larger and more diverse community of people who treasure the natural world and work to preserve it. A strong candidate will have experience working with young children, love of nature and the outdoors, and a desire to help young children learn about the world and the environment. Flexibility, reliability, and organization are key to the role. The program assistant will be responsible for participating in the Lunch Bunch and afternoon preschool programs. Our play-based, nature-based program requires all teachers to be active as well as comfortable exploring the outdoors in all types of weather. Naturalist is responsible for animal care and coordinating children and family environmental educational programs. Hours: 16 hours a week, plus 4 additional hours per month for weekend or evening programs Qualifications: BA/BS in education or science or two years teaching or natural history experience preferred. Must have experience working with children, possess natural history knowledge, and love working outside. Must be comfortable working with and handling animals including reptiles, insects, and mammals. Knowledge of animal care preferred. Details
