Within the Arkansas River Headwaters Colorado State Park near Buena Vista and along the 148-mile Arkansas River, you can enjoy a variety of activities including white water rafting, hiking, camping, fly fishing, canoeing, and rock climbing day trips. From the fabled mining town of Leadville, Colorado to the bass-filled waters of Pueblo Reservoir, the Arkansas River Headwaters hosts a charming valley where mountains cascade down to the river's edge, creating one of the most famous waterway canyons in the country - Browns Canyon. The Arkansas River continues to gain speed as it flows adjacent to the beautiful Collegiate Peaks Wilderness Area. Here, at the heart of Colorado's Rocky Mountains, you will find the Pike and San Isabel National Forests and more 14,000-foot peaks than any other state in the lower 48 states.
