Description

During this workshop you will be throwing and altering forms with Tom Coleman. This is a fantastic opportunity to further your skills as a clay artist. (note: it’s okay to scale down the size of the amount you throw during the workshop to learn his techniques.)

Tom will also take requests, answer questions and spend time teaching us how to spray-glaze and fire a Geil gas reduction kiln. We will be throwing, altering, trimming, firing bisque kilns, spraying slips and  glazes, loading the Geil gas kiln, and following with critiques.

We will be glazing and loading 2 glaze firings with Tom. This is a great opportunity to learn more about glaze application and make corrections in the second firing.

This workshop will also include a pot-luck evening at Tom and Elaine Coleman’s home and gallery for those people participating in this workshop.

(this is a good opportunity to have professional photography services at discount prices. If you will be attending this workshop contact Kelly@Kelly-McLendon.com ahead of time and make arrangements to have your work photographed.)

Special notes about the 2010 workshop: 2 glaze kiln firings in this week-long workshop

1)Tom starts early and throws with us all morning and throughout the day.

2)Halfway through the workshop week Tom gives us a detailed demo in spray-glazing and instructs as we glaze our work for the first glaze firing. We load the kiln with Tom and fire. Tom continues to throw with us while the first glaze kiln cools.

3)Pot-luck and gathering at Tom and Elaine’s home and gallery.

4)We unload the first glaze firing with Tom, critique, and glaze and load again. A lot is learned by glazing and firing 2 full times during the workshop with Tom.

5)The pottery is open 24/7 and most people attending this workshop continue throwing into the night after dinner.

6)There’s a lot of great energy in this workshop thanks to Tom and the people who attend.

Lodging is available at The Fiesta Hotel and Casino on Rancho Dr. If you’re flying into McCarren International Airport you will need to provide your own transportation to and from the airport. Transportation to and from the Santa Fe Hotel and Casino and Pottery West is provided by Pottery West. If you are staying at the Fiesta please let us know if you need a ride to the pottery.
