Description

The C. Barton McCann School of Art, a 501 (c) (3) organization, offers a unique environment to support emerging artists. The school's programs for students in grades 6 through 12 offer intensive instruction and portfolio development. The C. Barton McCann School of Art's natural setting cultivates a relationship between art and nature that encourages aesthetic awareness and creativity. This multisensory experience develops an inter-disciplinary curriculum for students to create and explore new horizons of artistic expression. Under the guidance of committed instructors, students discover new techniques and media. The school's hands-on, experiential approach helps young artists gain confidence in developing and expressing their own personal language.

The C. Barton McCann School of Art's Studio U Program is dedicated to serving talented and motivated high school students who wish to pursue post-secondary level studies and careers within the arts. The school provides sustained studies in painting, drawing, sculpture and ceramics in combination with exciting electives. Programs are conducted in both plein air and studio settings under the direction of dedicated and professional art educators.

The C. Barton McCann School of Art is strategically located to serve all students. Located in Central Pennsylvania, the school is approximately 250 miles from New York City, 195 miles from Philadelphia, 175 miles from Baltimore, and 170 miles from Washington D.C. The school is easily reached by major highways.

The C. Barton McCann School of Art is the vision of Mr.and Mrs. David B. Corneal. It is named after Mr. Corneal's grandfather, Charles Barton McCann. Mr. McCann, a Philadelphia high school art teacher, inspired students to pursue careers in art during the 1930's and 40's. During summer breaks, McCann chaperoned students to such stimulating natural areas as New Hope, Pennsylvania and upstate New York. These excursions offered avenues for the student's artistic development within a natural context. It is with the same vision and purpose that the C. Barton McCann School of Art was founded in 2006 by the Corneals - to provide students the opportunity to explore and develop their artistic talents.
