DescriptionOur Beginnings....On August 10, 1943, a committee of six men considered a 60 acre site south of Prescottwith the idea of turning it into a camping district. The site consisted of several abandoned gold mine claims. The title deed of one claim revealed it was originally "sold to 'John Doe' for a flea-bitten mare, a stage coach and a dapple grey." The site was priced at $1500. The Arizona Baptist Convention accepted the recommendations of the committee and purchased the acreage, then known as the Arizona Baptist Estates. A summer retreat for Conservative Baptists began....On November 29, 1943, Judge Fred Fickett suggested the purchase of an additional 15 acres which adjoined the original site.It was purchased for $800.The first buildings, a dining facility and a large chapel were placed on the property in the mid-1940's.In the early 1950's, the first permanent cabins were erected. The facility name was changed to Prescott Pines Baptist Camp in 1958, and the facility continued to grow. Details
