Camp Fire Girls  was established by Luther Halsey Gulick, M.D. and his wife, Charlotte

Vetter-Guilick in the summer of 1910. The Port Arthur  council became incorporated in 

1927 and the Beaumont council became incorporated in 1938.  In 1995, the two

councils combined to become the Southeast Texas Council.

Until 2003, the Southeast Texas Council operated and owned 2 Camp Fire camps

(Camp Waluta and Camp Niwana).  The council still continues the outdoor experience at

Camp Niwana in Woodville, TX.

In 1974 the National Camp Fire Board of Directors took a historic step and added boys

to the Camp Fire family, changing the name to Camp Fire Boys and Girls.

On September 1, 2001 National Camp Fire Board took another monumental step and

adopted the name Camp Fire USA.

Today, Camp Fire USA Southeast Texas Council programs reflect the best of our

past, the imperative of the present and our hopes for the future.

Camp Fire USA Southeast Texas Council is a leading youth development organization

celebrating over 75 years of building caring confident youth and future leaders in the 9

counties we serve. It is our belief that it is more effective and less expensive to build a

child than it is to repair one.

Camp Fire USA is a family organization. Programming is directed towards boys and girls.

Our goal is to provide, through a program of informal education, opportunities for youth

to realize their potential to function effectively as caring, self-directed individuals,

responsible to themselves and others; and, as an organization, to seek to improve

those conditions in society which affect youth.
