I wish I knew who said this so I could give them credit, but it is true that when you draw a bow across a well-tuned violin string, the other strings resonate and harmonize to the clear tone played on the one string. A response to clear voice, perhaps, true pitch, and the way one true thing resonates more true things; a harmonic convergence, an explosion of light, a collective yes! This continues to be an apt metaphor for what happens in a WWF(a)C Writing Circle.
It’s hard to believe, but the Bloomington Affiliate of Women Writing for (a) Change is coming up on its 5th year anniversary! There is much to celebrate. This community has grown as an important local resource and supportive space for women writers in search of voice. (and Men in co-ed offerings!) There is nurturance here for a wide range of writing efforts, and for the lives expressed through these efforts.
Our move to the Poplar Grove Schoolhouse in the fall of 2008 was a bold step that established WWF(a)C of Bloomington as a destination for writers and it has allowed for the expansion into programs for girls and young women, men and women writing together, more workshop offerings, and on-going community outreach.
Many women came together to help create the space we occupy today; warm, welcoming, calming and celebratory rooms to hold our writing and generate individual and communal inspiration. There is an abundance of good will, hospitality; optimism and conviction for the manifestation of positive personal and world change here at the schoolhouse. Most people who have been inside this new space have commented on an undeniable spirit about the place that supports all the work being done here.
