Description

Our Theater and Musical Theater programs are directed by Kevin Murray and Rachel Girard. Both are Theater majors at FSU and have been with our camp since they were eighth graders. We feature classes in improvisation, mime, acting technique, and rehearse daily for our session-ending shows that include one act plays and musicals. Beginners are encouraged and advanced students will find a home to grow their talents.

Our Rock Band at Cypress Bay High School is under the direction of Mr. Brandon Cruz, a professional drummer and teacher at Flanagan High School. Last year his campers performed 16 ensemble pieces, with songs by Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Metallica, and a few camper originals. Campers can practice their chops during the AM program with members of local bands Haggus Magagus and B.O.D (Because of Dee), and rehearse for the show in the afternoon. Beginners are welcome!

Campers can find a wide variety of arts activities during the day. Our director, Shane Weaver, a graduate of the UF Fine Arts School, does tie-dye, illustration, animation, drawing, clay, and various summer camp crafts. His sunglasses and cameos during the rock bands final show are always summer highlights, but take a close second the fine work of his students.

Our film program is directed by Brett Kushner, a sophomore at the Florida State University School of Film, and former camper at BAC. With his guidance, campers write, film, star in, direct, and edit a series of short films over the summer. His classes in Adobe and HTML programming are a highlight for many of our computer-savvy students.

Our optional camping trips to the Ichetuknee River and Ginnie Springs are a time for campers to relax, bond with one another, and enjoy the dwindling natural ecosystems of our Florida. We tube the Ichetuknee, swim and snorkel the Ginnie springs, and camp in camp-provided tents. This summer will be the 11th and 12th trips weve taken.
