We encourage you to visit Santa Fe while your child is attending the workshop - not only will you get to see your progeny perform, but you can have some fun of your own!
Santa Fe is a lovely city, set in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the southernmost tail of the Rocky Mountains. It is the oldest capital city in the US, with a population of just under 70,000 year-round residents. The combination of fantastic weather, splendid scenery, and varied, high-quality art and performance offerings makes the City Different a draw for visitors from around the world. It is also a unique melting pot, with the merging of pueblo Indian, hispanic, and white cultures that all have long ties to this place
At 7,000 feet, Santa Fe has a high desert climate, which means the air is very dry, the sun is quite intense, and the altitude is noticeable. For these reasons visitors should:
• Drink water frequently!
• Wear a hat with a brim
• Be prepared to take it a little easy until your body adjusts to the altitude
In fact, Santa Fe is justifiably well-known for its wonderful ways to take it easy – to start with, we have many fine museums, restaurants, hotels and B&Bs, and stores, and close to 100 art galleries. If you want to relax even more, try Ten Thousand Waves, a beautiful Japanese health spa set in the mountains. Summer evenings are filled with too many performances to name here: the Santa Fe Opera, the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, and Maria Benitez’s famous Teatro Flamenco are just a sample.
Undaunted by the altitude? Get outside! Hike or bike up to 12,000 feet, fly-fish on the Pecos River, go horseback riding in the red, Cerrillos hills – all within 30-45 minutes of the Plaza.
