Advanced students will either move through the Alfred's Basic Piano course or through the Royal Conservatory of Music program. The latter program allows the students to study many different eras of music and work towards Practical Piano Examinations. Students of Andrea's Music Studio have the choice of being examined by the Royal Conservatory of Music in Halifax and by Acadia University at the studio. All students taking an examination receive ear-training and sight reading instruction throughout the year. Four weeks prior to the examination, students participate in extra ear-training classes. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the Kiwanis Music Festival each spring. Andrea's Music Studio also offers books from their lending library to supplement regular curriculum. Students can borrow books with modern, jazz, blues, folk, and traditional music.Adults begin with the Alfred's Adult program which is specifically designed for the adult learner. We also offer piano instruction in Blues, Jazz and Improv using a system used by professional musicians throughout the world. This system based on scale theory can be applied to Rock, Pop, R&B, Country, Jazz and Blues. With a few simple tricks you can learn how to improvise and "jazz up" a tune.
