DescriptionBuilt in 1982, the IU Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium cost $7 million. A new drainage system, track surface, and soccer field were installed in 1997. The revitalized facility made its debut at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The infield was reconstructed to accommodate field sports such as soccer, rugby, and lacrosse. In 1998, a new state-of-the-art timing, scoring and scoreboard display system was installed. It includes digital photo-finish timing equipment. With stadium seating for 12,111 patrons, the facility boasts an impressive scoreboard at the East end of the track. The air conditioned press box can accomodate 72 working media members, including wireless access throughout. The oval, 400-meter, eight-lane track is made up of a Mondo running surface and 48-inch lanes. Recently, the Stadium hosted both the 2006 and 2007 USA Track & Field Championships, while having also hosted the 1988 Olympic Team Trials Track and Field, IHSAA Lacrosse State Championships, the Horizon League Championships, the 2001 World Police and Fire Games, NCAA soccer & track competitions and other marquee events.
