Description

Many horse enthusiasts from the Plymouth area can remember the glory days of Nature's Last Stand, an equestrian center run by Squeak Van Dyke for many, many years. While Nature's Last Stand has officially closed, Constantine Farms has taken it's place, and Bucklebury has picked up where the NLS camp left off.

Many of our counselors worked at the NLS camp, and some were even campers themselves, back in the day. Our instructors have been riding and teaching at this location for several years, and have gained experience working and instructing at the NLS camp. It is this experience that has allowed us to build a new camp upon the scaffolding of the old. We have improved our camp's design to include more educational opportunities, teaching our campers everything from horse behavior to color genetics. Designed with constructive education in mind, we allow our students and campers to have a say in their own learning. Therefore, each week we teach and learn new and different things. This allows campers to return, often in the same summer, to learn and see additional things.

Our campers learn the basics of horse care, experiencing the activities and chores that go into a daily routine at the barn. This includes nutritional evaluation and feeding, correct safety practices in and around the barn, general farm upkeep and various other lessons. Our more advanced weeks also focus on the time and expense it takes to own or lease a horse, as well as how to go about looking for, leasing or purchasing a first horse.
