DescriptionMassanetta has a wonderful partnership with the Children's National Medical Center (CNMC) and their "Brainy Camps". This program, based out of the center in Washington, DC, offers children and teens with chronic health conditions seven days and six nights of summer fun and social connections. CNMC physicians, nurses, social workers, and parent-volunteers come together to care for campers who enjoy the typical activities one might expect at camp. At Brainy Camps, children experience all the joy and adventure of a sleep-away camp with medical staff close at hand. Camp Massanetta was blessed by the summer of 2009 camps and is looking forward with joy to the arrival of children and teens with Tourette Syndrome, Aspergers Syndrome, Neurofibromatosis, Epilepsy, Diabetes, Obesity, Sickle Cell Anemia, Cardiac Conditions including pacemakers, and those with Allergies. Family weekends are being planned for the fall and winter in the Hotel and Richardson buildings. Sandra Cushner-Weinstein, PT, LCSW-C, Director of the Brainy Camps, is greatly encouraged by this partnership. Full-week and partial-week camps are being offered during the 2010 season. The Brainy Camps have purchased railing to make the path between the Camp and the Hotel safer. Massanetta is providing better lighting in each of the villages to make it safer for the campers and staff. A "Memory Garden" is being planned to memorialize those campers whose health conditions have led to their death since the inception of the Brainy Camp program. Details
