Five Fairleigh Dickinson University women's tennis standouts were named All-Northeast Conference, released Thursday, April 29. Freshman Egzona Morina (Prishtina, Belgium) and senior Ksenia Chernyshova (Moscow, Russia) received First Team recognition at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Senior Julija Korshunova (Riga, Latvia) and sophomores Elmine Botes (Heidelberg Gauteng, Rep. of South Africa) and Julia Prantl (Benediktbeuern, Germany) received Second Team recognition at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Prantl and Morina also earned First Team recognition at No. 2 doubles.
Morina went 4-1 in five league matches as she finished the season with a 17-11 record.
Chernyshova went unbeaten in five league matches as she finished with a 17-12 record. This is the fourth time in as many seasons she has been named All-NEC. Last year, Chernyshova grabbed Second Team in number three singles. During her sophomore year, she was named to the Second Team in second singles, while being named to the First Team in number four singles as a freshman.
Korshunova went 4-1 in five league matches and finished the season with a record of 21-8. Last year she earned First Team recognition at number two doubles. During her freshman campaign, Korshunova took down NEC Rookie and Player of the Year honors.
Botes, a sophomore transfer from Indiana State University, went 4-1 in five league matches and finished the season with the best record on the team at 27-7.
Prantl went 4-1 in five league matches and had a season record of 18-7.
The tandem of Prantl and Morina went undefeated in four league matches and finished the season with a 15-5 record.
The Knights won a program-high 17 matches this season as they finished with a record of 17-5, which included a 2-1 record in the Northeast Conference Championships. The Knights return six letter winners for the 2010-11 campaign.
