DescriptionOpening of the new track and field site in South Surrey. The 8 lane track is constructed of a high standard polyurethane sandwich system. The sand based grass in-field of the oval will be utilized for field events and football. Representatives of the sporting community joined Mayor Doug McCallum and other members of City of Surrey Council on Sunday (October 23rd) for the official ribbon cutting of the recently completed South Surrey Athletic Park Track and Field site. The facility has been designed to serve the specialized needs of track and field sport users but has also been adapted to allow for other field events such as football. "With the 2010 Olympic and Paralympics Winter Games just around the corner, completing major initiatives such as this new $2.7 million track & field capital investment will help the City to nurture and support our future athletes while addressing the growing needs of local sports groups," said Mayor McCallum on behalf of Council. "We're serious about sport development and supporting active living in Surrey and we want to ensure that the City is ahead of the game and well positioned for emerging opportunities on the world stage."
