The Mill Valley Tennis Club was founded in 1929 as a member-owned club dedicated to friendly, competitive tennis play. It is located in Mill Valley, California, just north of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County. Its facilities include five tennis courts, a swimming pool, a BBQ patio area, and an architecturally distinctive clubhouse with fireplace, bar, and grill.
Throughout its history, the club has hosted premier tennis competitions among the top players in northern California and from other parts of the country. Its membership has included many top local players, including some who have achieved high national rankings and won national tournaments in many categories. Its teams compete well in a wide range of inter-club leagues and events within Marin, Sonoma, and the Bay Area, even against clubs many times its size in terms of membership and number of courts.
The club currently hosts the annual USTA Marin Seniors Tournament every June and an Open Invitational Tournament featuring individual matches on selected Friday evenings throughout the summer. These tournaments attract national caliber players, and are very popular spectator events for tennis enthusiasts.
