DescriptionThe Wofford tennis team defeated The Citadel 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Earle Tennis Center. Wofford concludes the 2010 season at 8-13, and 4-6 in the Southern Conference.The Bulldogs posted a 2010 record of 8-14, 2-8 in the Southern Conference. The Wofford men’s tennis team lost a hard fought match to their rival Furman by as score of 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center. The loss drops the Terriers record to 7-12 on the year and 3-5 in the Southern Conference. Furman improves to 11-9 on the year and 7-0 in the Southern Conference. Furman took an early lead in the match by winning all three double matches including a tie break victory at number one doubles. The Paladins continued their strong play in singles action winning the first two matches to push their lead to 3-0. The Terriers rallied to win the number six singles match when Tom Wood defeated Chris Rhyne 6-4, 6-2. Furman earned three tough victories in the final three matches on their way to a 6-1 victory. Michael Schecter lost a hard fought match at number five singles to Andrew Mellow 6-3, 6-4. The last two matches of the day went to three sets. At number four singles Paul Bartholomy won the first set over Jordan Walter 6-2 but Walter came back to win the final two sets 6-4, 6-1. In the last match of the day Sawyer Duncan defeated Tinus Van Wyk at number one singles. Van Wyk won the first set 6-3 and Duncan won the second 6-4 to force a decisive third set. The final set was decided over a ten point tie break which Duncan won 10-8. The Terriers will close out the 2010 season on Saturday, April 17 when they will travel to Charleston, S.C. to take on the Citadel at 12:00 Details
