Auburn Montomery (Ala.) and Fresno Pacific (Calif.) will battle for the fifth-consecutive year in the title match of the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship in Mobile, Ala. The Lady Senators shut out Concordia (Calif.) and Fresno Pacific defeated Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) in its semifinal match to advance. Auburn Montgomery will be gunning for its seventh-consecutive national Championship.
The No. 1-seeded Lady Senators swept Concordia, 5-0, for its third shutout of the championship. Auburn Montgomery has not dropped a match, winning 5-0 in all three. AUM led 3-0 after the conclusion of the doubles matches, winning 8-2, 8-5, 8-2, respectively and received two quick singles victories from Whitney Byrd at four singles (6-2, 6-1) and Nathalie Sienkob at five singles (6-0, 6-1). Auburn Montgomery is making its 11th consecutive appearance in the championship match.
No. 2-seed Fresno Pacific (Calif.) knocked off fellow Golden State Athletic Conference school Point Loma Nazarene, 5-1. The Sunbirds captured two and three doubles, 8-3, 8-2, respectively, to take a 2-1 lead heading in to singles play. Fresno Pacific rattled off three straight singles victories to secure the win. Cristina Vallederes took three singles (6-1, 6-2), Erika Januskova won five singles (6-0, 6-1) and Yulia Blinovskaya captured six singles (6-0, 6-4). It is the Sunbirds fifth trip to the championship match.
