The Gonzaga University women’s tennis team closed out its season with a 4-2 victory over Loyola Marymount University on the final day of the West Coast Conference Championships Sunday afternoon.
The Bulldogs finish the season with a 14-7 record; the most wins in program history and had Prue Teitzel, Rika Mehndiratta and Kristina Zauere each post double-digit win seasons.
Gonzaga opened the match by taking the first two completed doubles matches. The No. 2 pairing of Dodge and Zauere posted their team-best 14th win of the season with an 8-5 victory and the No. 1 tandem of Rika Mehndiratta and Danielle Farmer won 8-5.
In singles play, Tabb won at No. 6 singles before Mehndiratta and Teitzel recorded wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles respectively to clinch the win for the Zags. Teitzel came back to win in three sets after dropping her first set to post her team-leading 14th win of the season. Mehndiratta’s 12th win of the season proved to the match-winner as the teams were tied at 3-3 entering her match. She went on to post a come-from-behind victory in three sets to give the Zags the fourth and deciding point.
