DescriptionLisa Bluder, the head women’s basketball coach at The University of Iowa and dean of Big Ten coaches, can be defined by many words, but no two ring more true than the words passion and success. During her tenure, the Hawkeyes have advanced to seven post-season appearances. She is the second winningest coach in Iowa women’s basketball history and was named Big Ten and WBCA Regional Coach of the Year twice (2001, 2008). The Hawkeyes were Big Ten Champions in 2008 and Big Ten Tournament Champions in 2001. Five Hawkeyes earned Big Ten honors during the 2009 season. Kristi Smith was named to the first team for the second consecutive year, Kachine Alexander to the Second Team, Wendy Audemore to the Third Team, and Megan Skouby was selected as Honorable Mention. Kamille Wahlin was named to the All-Freshman Team. In addition, seven of Bluder’s Hawkeyes have played professional basketball. Cara Consuegra, Lindsey Meder and Crystal Smith all had stints in the WNBA. Jamie Cavey has played in Portugal and Greece, while Johnanna Solverson, Kristi Smith, and Megan Skouby are currently playing Aside from basketball success, one of the most gratifying aspects of Coach Bluder’s job is developing her players into leaders and role models. Coach Bluder’s teams are always very active in the community and enjoy being involved in community activities. Coach Bluder loves the family atmosphere and rich tradition that comes with coaching at The University of Iowa. She has truly developed a program that demonstrates great passion and success in all aspects. Details
