Description

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men’s tennis team is set to welcome the 24th-ranked recruiting class to campus next season, according to final rankings released Monday by tennisrecruiting.net.

“This is very exclusive company with which to be recognized,” head coach Pawel Gajdzik said. “We were able to attract very talented and highly recruited players to our program based on this year’s success on the court and in the classroom. We are one of only three Big Ten schools in the top 25, so this is a very good accomplishment. This group will be the foundation for Boilermaker tennis moving forward as we look to improve and climb in the Big Ten Conference standings and in the national rankings.”

Gajdzik and assistant coach Brandon Lenfert inked the two highest-ranked signees in program history just four months after being hired, and then added another high-caliber recruit to the mix earlier this month.

Szymon Tatarczyk is currently ranked 54th by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). The Gorzyczki, Poland, native has been ranked as one of the top two players in Poland throughout his junior career. He has won tournaments in Austria, Latvia and Sweden in addition to his homeland, which he represented in the European Championships. Tatarczyk, who has participated in the U.S. Open, Australian Open and Orange Bowl tournaments, also is ranked 63rd in doubles.

Mark Kovacs holds an ITF ranking of 98th. The Budapest, Hungary, native represented his country in the European Championships. He has won ITF tournaments in Romania, Slovenia and Venezuela on his way to compiling 38 wins against just 26 losses in international play.

Aaron Dujovne has won Chilean national singles titles in both under 16 and under 18 divisions, and also added an under 18 doubles triumph. The Santiago native advanced to the semifinal round of a Grade 1 tournament in Asuncion, Paraguay, beating sixth-ranked Filip Krajinovic along the way, and took down fifth-ranked Kellen Damico in a Grade A tournament in Mexico. Dujovne was ranked as the number two player in Chile for his age group in 2006 and 2008 and has reached the semifinal round in doubles in three different futures tournaments.
