"The mission of Canonicus Camp and Conference Center



is to extend and enhance the ministry of local



congregations of the American Baptist Churches of



Rhode Island (ABCORI) to the community by providing



opportunities and resources for spiritual and



personal nurture, and for creative recreation and



education in the context of God’s natural



environment."



Canonicus is a ministry of the American Baptist



Churches of Rhode Island (ABCORI).  ABCORI is a



Christian denomination with its roots in the



religious freedom of Rhode Island.  Canonicus derives



its name from Native American leader, Chief Sachem



Canonicus, whose story is intertwined with a close



relationship with Roger Williams and the founding of



the state of Rhode Island.
